Badwolf Canapes
Yes, imagining something as delicate as a puff pastry canape appreciated at the lair is hard. Truth be told, the denizens never did, but the guests always managed to enjoy some of these before they were inhaled in job lots.
As the customary date for the annual Badwolf Birthday party approaches, a number of the regular guests have reached out to reminisce and ask if I am doing anything this year. And, by the way, can I get the recipe for a specific candy, cookie, cake, appetizer, or drink?
In this case, the request was for a rather delicate canape, a cup of puff pastry with a piece of brie and a bit of cranberry relish, along with some texture enhancers in the form of roasted and chopped pecans and bacon bits.
While this recipe is written as described, one can play with the concept in many ways. Perhaps a puff cup with a touch of apple compote and a red-hot candy, or use blue cheese and cranberry chutney, perhaps feta and a jalapeno-stuffed olive.
As per Wikipedia:
A canapé (French: [kanape]) is a type of starter, a small, prepared, and often decorative food, consisting of a small piece of bread (sometimes toasted) or cracker, wrapped or topped with some savoury food, held in the fingers and often eaten in one bite.
Because they are often served during cocktail hours, it is often desired that a canapé be either salty or spicy, in order to encourage guests to drink more.
A canapé may also be referred to as finger food, although not all finger foods are canapés. Crackers or small slices of bread or toast or puff pastry are cut into various shapes, used as the base for savory butters or pastes, and often topped with other savory foods such as meat, cheese, fish, caviar, foie gras, purées or relish.
