Twisted Malted

Okay, it’s been a day. Various great and small heart-stopping moments sum up a day with little actual accomplishments and more annoying frustrations. I shall indulge in a treat right out of my youth.

I remember having malted milk at a lunch counter in a pharmacy at a very young age—yes, even I was young once. The drink was a mixture of milk, ice cream, and malt powder, mixed in a steel carafe and then served in a glass. The mixture was so thick that a special straw and spoon were provided. The mouthfeel was rich with all the dairy fat, and the malt powder intensified the buttery taste of said fat.

My current version is a simple milkshake with two add-ins: malt powder and a lot of good bourbon. Good full-fat vanilla ice cream(I like one with flecks of vanilla bean in the ice cream) and ice-cold full-fat milk are a MUST. The malt powder must be a premium brand, and no one likes cheap bourbon.

As per Wikipedia:

A milkshake (sometimes simply called a shake) is a sweet beverage made by blending milk, ice cream, and flavorings or sweeteners such as butterscotch, caramel sauce, chocolate syrup, or fruit syrup into a thick, sweet, cold mixture. It may also be made using a base made from non-dairy products, including plant milks such as almond milk, coconut milk, or soy milk. Dry ingredients such as whole fruit, nuts, seeds, candy, or cookies may be incorporated.

Terminology around the distinction between a milkshake that uses ice cream and other forms of flavored milk varies regionally. An ice cream-based milkshake may be called a thick shake to distinguish it. In parts of New England and eastern Canada, the name frappe (/fræp/ FRAP) is used.] Rhode Island residents sometimes refer to milkshakes as “cabinets”. A milkshake containing malted milk powder is sometimes called a malt. The term concrete is used for particularly thick milkshakes that do not spill when turned upside down, such as those offered by the restaurant chain Culver’s.

Malted

This is the best milkshake ever. It's thick, creamy, ice-cold, malty, and rich with ice cream. But I'll throw in that roguechef twist.

A throw back to my youth and a set of burger and ice cream shops called Dairy Q*een.
But with a slightly more adult bend of mind.
One can use any ice cream flavor for this, but bourbon pairs so well with vanilla.
